As part of the plan listed in the filing, a subsidiary of Graham Packaging Holdings Company would change its name to Graham Packaging Company Inc. and exchange shares of stock for the ownership stakes of the holding company's current owners.
A spokesman for Graham said Tuesday he could not comment beyond what is in the filing.
The filing was made this week with the SEC under the name GPC Capital Corp. II, the subsidiary that would change its name to Graham Packaging Company Inc.
The majority owner currently in Graham is the Blackstone Group of New York.
The news comes just three months after another effort to take Graham public officially ended when a Texas-based acquisition firm decided to purchase another company instead of Graham.
Taking a company public means shares of a company would be traded on a public stock exchange.
Graham is one of the largest York County-based companies and makes plastic containers for such customers as Coca-Cola and Mary Kay, just to name a few.
At last count, the company has about 500 employees in York County. It has about 8,700 employees worldwide, according to its Web site.
