YORK SUBURBAN-Anyone considering running for a school board seat in the spring 2013 primary election is invited to attend a "What You Need To Know About Serving on a School Board" panel discussion from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at the York Suburban Middle School.

Hosted by the York Suburban School District in the large group room, the discussion will involve school board members from several area school districts.

Topics to be covered include how to file and circulate nominating petitions; timelines; the amount of time involved in serving on a school board; good boardsmanship; board-superintendent relationships, and partnership with the Lincoln Intermediate Unit.

Scheduled to participate are: York Suburban School Board member Jennifer Clancy; Central York School Board member Eric Wolfgang; Lincoln Intermediate Unit Director Michael Thew; and Pamela Price of the Pennsylvania School Boards Association, who will be the facilitator.

York Suburban School District Supt. Kate Orban, who also will be on the panel, said school board members from other districts are expected to participate in the discussion.

School board members are elected community volunteers who do not receive a salary or compensation for their service. The session will be of interest to community members, as well as current school board members.
