Kennywood officials have asked state officials for approval to begin selling beer. If the park gets approval, it could begin the sales by the end of June.
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review ( http://bit.ly/IkJ1hm) reports the park received approval Wednesday to receive a liquor license from a closed restaurant.
A park spokesman says the decision to begin offering beer was influenced by a positive response to special Oktoberfest events where alcohol was served and increased requests over the years.
The park in the Pittsburgh suburb of West Mifflin traces its history to 1898 and still operates two rollercoasters that date to the 1920s.
