Pinterest, a visually driven social network co-founded by York Suburban High School graduate Evan Sharp, is valued between $1 billion and $1.5 billion after its latest round of funding, according to news organizations.

Reuters, citing the research outfit comScore, reports that Pinterest has grown from fewer than one million users a year ago to about 20 million as of last month.

Reuters reported that "many investors were wary about the billion-dollar valuation" because it "puts Pinterest beyond the reach of all but a handful of potential acquirers, probably putting it onto a path for an eventual IPO rather than an acquisition."
