The Fawn Grove Compassion Center in Pylesville, Md., recently shipped a tractor-trailer load of relief aid to Hurricane Sandy disaster victims in New York.

The shipment of Crisis Care Kits went out Nov. 3 from the FGCC warehouse.

The nearly 1,700 boxes of relief aid included new, personal-care hygiene items, such as shampoo, toothpaste, hand towels, toothbrushes, body soap and other items.

Each box contains six kits, 10,182 kits in all, which were prepared and donated by Church of the Nazarene congregations throughout the country.

The churches ship their prepared boxes to the warehouse, where they are labeled and stored for disaster relief.

"We got the call at 4:20 Friday that a tractor-trailer would be at the warehouse the next morning at 8 a.m.," said John Borgal, warehouse manager. "So I called our volunteers and got people here to help load the container Saturday morning."

Borgal said 15 people from area churches, including Fawn Grove Church of the Nazarene in Pylesville, Md., York Stillmeadow Church of the Nazarene in York, Slateville Presbyterian Church and the Rehoboth Welsh Chapel in Delta, came to help load the Crisis Care Kit boxes into the truck.

The 1,697 boxes of Crisis Care Kits were transported to the Community Church of the Nazarene in Rockaway, New York for distribution to needy individuals and families in the region.

"We didn't quite fill the truck, but we gave them all the kits we had in the warehouse," Borgal said.

Four days later, a rental truck from the Ellicott City Crossroads Church of the Nazarene stopped at the warehouse to get 18 boxes of blankets, nine boxes of baby blankets, five boxes of sleeping bags and another 25 boxes of Crisis Care Kits.

The truck was nearly full with nonperishable food items and water when it made its stop at the warehouse to load the additional items.

"Another 25 CCK boxes had come in, so we were able to give them another 150 kits to distribute in New York," Borgal said.

So far, the Fawn Grove Compassion Center has sent 1,729 boxes of relief aid to victims of Hurricane Sandy.

FGCC is a nonprofit, affiliated ministry of the Fawn Grove Church of the Nazarene.
