Yard Sale >> A yard sale will be held May 31 at Dover Mini Storage, 2171 Palomino Road, Dover Township, rain or shine. The cost is $10 for a 10-foot by 20-foot inside space. The proceeds from registration fees benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. Spaces are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Alpacas of York, 1863 Grantley Road in Spring Garden Township, is holding its shearing day 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 17, which is open to the public. In addition to shearing, there will be visits with the alpacas and the farm's llamas and miniature horses, pulled pork barbecue sandwiches available for purchase from Go Big BBQ, and demonstrations of weaving and spinning. Faith, family, food night >> New Creation Community Church, 3005 Emig Mill Road, Dover Township, holds Faith, Family, and Food Nights on Wednesdays during the school year. A kid-friendly dinner will be served at 6 p.m., followed by adult bible study, youth group for teenagers, and faith-building but fun adventures for kids. Nursery care is also available. A small donation for dinner is suggested if you can afford it. The Wednesday night ministry runs until May. Everyone from the community is welcome.

Annual Car Show and Yard Sale >> New Creation Community Church, 3005 Emig Mill Road, Dover Township, will host its sixth annual Blaine Kinter car show and yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 24. Food, drinks, and baked goods will also be available. Registration for the car show will open at 8 a.m., followed by the show from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Trophies will be awarded at 1:30 p.m. There is a nominal fee to enter. Church Seeks Auction Donations For Wounded Warrior Support >> The youth group from Rohlers Assembly of God Church, 761 Rohler's Church Road, Dover Township, along with their pastor, youth leaders and other adults, will be going on a missions trip to Kerrville, Texas, from June 21 to 28. The group will be doing construction at the Eagles Summit Ranch, which offers Wounded Warrior recovery support. This training center is run by the Roever Foundation and is dedicated to rebuilding self-esteem, confidence, financial freedom and family relationships in wounded veterans by providing mentoring, educational opportunities and hands-on public speaking experiences. Through these programs, wounded warriors are helped to return home to full and productive lives. Each youth and adult participating in the trip must raise $1,100 to cover his or her expenses plus construction funds.

The team is planning a missions benefit auction at the church May 16 and 17 to help raise some of the funds. The auction starts at 6 p.m. May 16 and 8 a.m. May 17. Some items to be auctioned off include a used vehicle; new 8-foot-by-10-foot shed from Loyville Structures; sports and NASCAR memorabilia; Philadelphia Phillies, York Revolution and Harrisburg Senators tickets; a photography package; autographed photos from the 76ers and Steelers; SIght & Sound, York Little Theatre and Dreamwrights tickets; Panera Bread-For-A-Year certificate; Bowflex Xtreme; a home gym; framed artwork; hand-made jewelry; scarves; gift baskets; plants and flowers; toys; tools; furniture; and many other donations and gift certificates from local businesses and restaurants.

During the auction, the Women's Auxiliary will be selling homemade soups, pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs, walking tacos, home-made pastries and pies along with other refreshments. Women of the Word Ladies Conference >> Lighthouse Baptist Church, 5005 Carlisle Road, Dover Township, is hosting a Women of the Word Ladies Conference. The conference begins with registration and a reception at 6:30 p.m. May 15, with the first speaker at 7 p.m. On May 16, sessions run 9:15 a.m. to 8 p.m., including lunch and providing a dinner break. The final day, May 17, begins at 9:15 a.m. and closes at 12:45 p.m. Special speakers include Lonnie and Nancy Mattingly of Louisville, Ky., and Melissa Baker of South Carolina. A variety of seminars will also be presented designed especially for women and teen ladies. The conference is $40 per person for the entire conference when preregistered including reception and lunch May 16 ($45 at the door). Special prorated rates are available for those who can only attend portions of the conference.

Yard, Plant & Bake Sale >> Mount Olivet Church of God, 1185 Detters Mill Road, Dover Township, will hold a yard, plant and bake sale at 8 a.m. May 17.

"Proclaim" Performs >> The Pensacola Vocal Group "Proclaim" will be performing at the Lighthouse Baptist Church, 5005 Carlisle Road, Dover Township, at 10:30 a.m. May 18. Proclaim is a vocal group from Pensacola Christian College, Pensacola, Fla.

The public is encouraged to attend. There is no admission charge for this program.

A Salute to the Armed Forces >> The public is invited to the Lighthouse Baptist Church, 5005 Carlisle Road, Dover Township, at 10:30 a.m. May 25, for a Salute to the Armed Forces featuring patriotic music and honor guard. Special recognition will be given to all veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces, as well as those who have passed and those who are currently serving. Those attending are encouraged to wear their military attire.

Plant Sale >> The Friends of the Dover Area Community Library will sponsor their annual plant sale from 8 a.m. to noon May 24. The sale will be held in the pavilion at Lehr Park, which is adjacent to the Dover Area Community Library at 3700 Davidsburg Road in Dover Township. Plants are donated by members of the organization, local garden businesses, and residents who divide garden plants during spring cleanup. The proceeds of the sale are used to keep the library up and running. This year, the group has a goal to fundraise more than $25,000 for the library through a variety of events including this sale. Joan Dawson is chairwoman of this event, and Ann Bridge is president of the Friends group.

Dover schools

Graduation >> Dover Area School District school board members recently announced that this year's senior graduation will be June 11. The class of 2014 will be graduating at Utz Arena at the York Expo Center, 344 Carlisle Ave. School board members said that is the location where students wanted to hold their graduation.

East Berlin

Garden Tour >> The East Berlin Area Community Center, 405 North Ave., East Berlin, will hold its annual garden tour 12:30 to 5 p.m. June 8; rain or shine. There will be five gardeners in East Berlin to tour. Ice cream and strawberries will be available. Tickets/booklets are $10 in advance or $12 the day of the tour. Tickets will be available at the EBACC office or Cashman's Hardware. Children younger than 16 years old are admitted free.

Jackson Twp.

Yard Sale >> Windy Hill on the Campus senior center, 1472 Roth's Church Road, Jackson Township, will hold an indoor yard sale from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. May 30 and 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 31. Breakfast and lunch including homemade soups, sandwiches and baked goods will be available on May 31, and cash bingo will be played from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The center is accepting new and gently used items.

Memorial Day Event >> The Jefferson community Memorial Day celebration will be May 25, with a parade preceding the memorial service at the community cemetery. The parade will form on the parking lot of the Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 47 W. Hanover St., Jefferson, at 1:15 p.m. and move toward the cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Floats from churches and community organizations, as well as antique cars, are welcome. Scouts, veterans and residents are encouraged to walk in the parade. The service at the cemetery will begin at 2 p.m. Featured speaker will be U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. William York. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held at Bethlehem United Methodist Church at 2 p.m.

New Salem

PENNY FAIR for kids >> St. Jacob's Lutheran Church, 99 E. George St., New Salem, will hold a kids' penny fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 17.

The family event will feature Obo the Clown, games, prizes and giveaways for kids of all ages. Lunch, snack items, soup (eat-in or carryout) and baked goods will be available. Child-safety information and giveaways will be provided by West Manchester Township. All proceeds will benefit St. Jacob's Community Vacation Bible School.

North Codorus Twp.

Memorial Day Celebration >> A Memorial Day celebration and May festival will be held May 26 at Siebenthal Resort, 3150 Tunnel Hill Road, North Codorus Township, featuring The Adlers, a German band. Gates open at noon, and the band plays from 2 to 6 p.m. The admission price is $15; young adults from 6 years old to college-age are $7.50; and children younger than 6 are admitted free. West Manchester Twp.

Community yard sale >> Church of the Open Door will host a community yard sale May 31 at the church, 8 Carlisle Court in West Manchester Township.

The public is invited to set up tables and sell their "treasures," according to a news release.

Each community yard sale usually has about 100 tables and 600 to 800 people attend, officials said.

The church doesn't collect any money for the event, but the West York Boys Basketball Booster Club will set up a canteen for a fundraiser.

Craft and ReSale Event >> Residents of the Normandie Ridge Senior Living Community, 1700 Normandie Drive, West Manchester Township, will hold a craft and resale event in the main entrance atrium on Election Day, May 20, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. A preview sale will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. May 19. Proceeds will benefit resident life and activities.

West York

Patriotic Song Fest and Ice Cream Social >> St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, 1569 W. Market St., West York, will hold its annual patriotic song fest and ice cream social June 1. The music portion will begin at 3 p.m. and will be followed by an ice cream social and time of community fellowship. This is a free event, but free-will offerings will be accepted. Wearing red, white, and blue is suggested, but not required.
