The two finalists for the job are Ron Dyer and Thomas Newcome, said school board member Don Jasmann, chairman of the search committee.
Dyer is Dallastown's assistant superintendent and has been acting superintendent since Stewart Weinberg resigned as superintendent earlier this year.
Newcome is superintendent of the Octorara Area School District, which includes parts of Lancaster and Chester counties, Jasmann said.
There were 17 applicants for the position, he said, and the search committee identified six to interview, one of whom never responded. The search committee interviewed the remaining five and selected three to continue on, but one candidate decided not to be considered.
The two final candidates were then interviewed by a group of stakeholders -- teachers, administrators, support staff, students, community members -- and by the board, Jasmann said.
On June 14, Dyer and Newcome will each meet with five separate focus groups for teachers, administrators, support staff, parents and students throughout the day before a public "meet the candidates" event at 5:15 p.m.
Members of the community can attend that event, where they will be asked to submit questions in writing. The search committee will review the questions and combine any similar topics, and then each candidate will be questioned individually.
Jasmann said the board wanted to be as transparent as possible with the process.
"We needed to have as many people involved with this process as possible," he said.
The board will interview the candidates again after the community meeting and anticipates making a decision by the end of June, depending on all of the input that is received, he said.
