The borderline towns of Delta and Cardiff invite all York Countians to experience their joint history during the 16th annual Delta-Cardiff Heritage Festival 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 5.

The event pays tribute to the towns' slate-quarrying and railroading past through exhibits and demonstrations at the Peach Bottom Township Recreation Center, Front and Pendyrus streets.

Guests also may take the history tour, with stops at the Welsh Church, Coulsontown Cottages, Slateville Church, Faulk-Jones Slate Quarry and Stewart's Stone House.

Other features include arts and crafts sales, music, farmers market, children's games and silent auction.

Admission is free, but visitors are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for the "Neighbors Feeding Neighbors" food drive.

The public is invited to join in a ceremony to honor two of York County's fallen soldiers.

The Dallastown and Red Lion posts of the American Legion will celebrate the lives of Sgt. Christopher M. Wrinkle and Tech. Sgt. Daniel L. Zerbe 1 to 3 p.m. April 21 in the Dallastown Area Senior High School auditorium.

The program is one of honor and remembrancem and will include a flag presentation to the families of these two young heroes.

Many libraries in York County offer reading programs that involve therapy dogs, but the Collinsville Community Library is the first that I know of that offers the same with horses!

Kids can read to Freedom and Scout, two horses owned by Confederate Trails of Gettysburg, during a special visit at 6:30 p.m. April 24 at library.

Deadline for the 2012 Mae Millstone Scholarship is April 30.

Presented by the York Chapter of the National Organization for Women, the $1,000 scholarship is open to feminist women of all ages pursing higher education, vocational training or improvements through classes and programs.
