The 2012 Voices for Hope Benefit Banquet is May 10 at the Heritage Hills resort.
During this event, H.O.P.E. will present the Scott Brown Memorial Seeds of Hope Award to the Twin Rose Lady Riders.
The group is a fine choice for the award, as these women on wheels have raised more than $30,000 for breast cancer research and nearly $20,000 for H.O.P.E., the southern York County-based nonprofit group that provides free assistance to cancer patients and their families.
The group's founder, Joyce Lloyd, succumbed to cancer last year, but these riders from York and Lancaster counties have vowed to continue their support for H.O.P.E. in her honor.
For banquet details, call the H.O.P.E. office at 717-227-2824.
Spring brought the return of Sunset Scramble Bike Rides on the York County Heritage Rail Trail.
Starting points for upcoming rides include Glen Rock on May 8, Railroad on May 15 and New Freedom on May 22. Each ride begins 6:30 p.m.
Participants must bring their own bike, helmet, light, water and money for snacks.
To learn more, call the York County Department of Parks and Recreation at 717-840-7440 or visit www.yorkcountyparks.org.
Organizers of the Book Nook Bonanza are collecting books for their annual used book sale.
Drop-off boxes are at The Bon-Ton Queensgate and at AAA Travel Agency, 2840 Eastern Blvd., Springettsbury Township.
For criteria on donating books, records, tapes or CDs, visit www.booknook
Of course, your local library also is a good place for these donations. Many host their own used book sales throughout the year, and would be grateful for your paperbacks and hardcover books. Call ahead, though, to learn about your library's donation policy.
