For those who have waited all winter to hear "Drivers, start your engines," the Daytona 500 cannot get here soon enough.

The Eureka Volunteer Fire Company will celebrate NASCAR's Superbowl by hosting a shrimp feast in conjunction with the race beginning at 12:15 p.m. Sunday at the fire hall, North Main Street (Route 24), Stewartstown.

I've read the menu and counted shrimp cooked eight different ways, from steamed to soup. Side dishes round out the meal.

Christ Lutheran Church in Loganville is getting ready for its spring yard, soup and bake sale.

Although the event is not until 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 9 at the church, 80 S. Main St., the ladies there are taking soup orders now. Quarts of chicken-corn and ham-bean soups must be ordered by Feb. 28. To do so, call 717-741-0001, 717-741-1554 or 717-428-3523.

On the day of the sale, you eat breakfast or lunch there, buy baked goods and shop the tables of clothing, accessories, household items, jewelry, toys and yard sale items. A 125-year-old schoolhouse oak bench measuring six feet in length will be auctioned off through silent bidding.

Candy catalogs and order sheets are available at the senior center, 20-C Gotham Place, behind the Red Lion Post Office, until Friday, which is the last day to place orders.

The senior center will profit 50 percent from every chocolate sold.
