'A really good air show going on': Cessna grounded by military aircraft at York Airport
Just after 7 p.m. Friday night, according to NORAD, fighter jets intercepted two Cessnas that flew in a temporary flight-restricted area over Camp David. One landed at York Airport in Thomasville; the other on a grass runway in Pennsylvania. Lots of people saw it and wondered what was going on.

The York Daily Record/Sunday News asked on its Facebook page last night if anyone had seen or heard anything.
sure did - 7pm - VERY VERY low with another smaller planeAndrea Niehoff Goodson
I heard them fly over my house!. Went outside to be greeted by an f15:)James Robinette
heard it too and went out to see it ; good bet small plane pilot wet his pants when the fighter came up on him almost right over our house - most exciting for us not so much for the pilot. LOLRay Van de Castle
I was walking out of my house in Hanover and heard the thunder, One plane made more noise then five did at a nascar race, It was so cool, I saw the small plane they were chaising, They kept flying circles around it to get their attention, Thats probably the one they made land in York, I never saw a F15 make circles like that, You could see the whole top as they were turning, Usually all you see of a plane is the underneath.Just glad that they didn`t have to take any harsh measures, Proud of the service men who protect us, Job well done :)John Vandersloot Jr.
fighter was circling the small plane after coming up on it high speed; that was what caught our attention the jet screaming into contact with the small plane .. saw fighter wiggle his wings at small plane -- went off in direction of york.Ray Van de Castle
I watched this from the ground they were right over head in York Pa. The jet was rattling my filings they were so low. And the F 15 you could tell was not doing stunts. We joked Dirty Harry in a fighter jetKevin Behr
In response to questions about what was going on, York County 911 said it was a training exercise. There was immediate skepticism about that.
Seems odd that they had a training exercise over Hanover when western York County is under a temporary no-fly zone due to the G-8 Summit.Blake Stough
they dont do routine training exercises over towns ! especially not that low . it may have something to do with the g8 summit at camp david !Joseph Mummerth
I'm not buying the routine training exercise line.... I thought for sure they were going to collide near the York airport, and why would they train, flying that low near residential areas? Just saying....let the conspiracy theories begin...Bill Gunter
posted a news release on Facebook
about the two grounded planes, and that info quickly hit news sites.
Finally- we got the truth here. Hanover 911 dispatchers called it a"training exercise". We all know it was not that!Bob Lamison Jr.
My granddaughter and her family live in Hanover, York County Last night and wanted to know why there were airplanes flying so low over head..She said that one had boms on it and that she was really scared.. I told her that I was watching TV 27 news and there was nothing on it... for her to call the airport or police to see if anything was going on .... Like an air show at Thomasville airport..... This morning she called and told me that it was in the paper about the 2 planes...... this close to my family is kinda scarey.. My 3rd grandson is 20 and he is in the Army Reserves.....Juanita Carbaugh
Guess that's what all the noise was her in Spring Grove, that they were going to land on the rooftop. Sometimes having the airport over the hill can be exciting.Kim Godfrey
This morning, York Airport manager Richard Fuess said he didn't have any official information on what had happened. But he said people had called him Friday night to report that there was a "really good air show going on" at the airport.
grounding of planes that violate Camp David airspace is not unusual
, as this 2002 story from the Daily Record shows. It's usually unintentional -- a pilot doesn't realize that the no-fly zone has changed, for example.
The FAA's restricted zone map shows that the no-fly zone around Camp David, site of the
was expanded well into York County
