In response to your "Pension tension" editorial of Oct. 20, I don't appreciate your immoral and possibly illegal suggestion to: "allow reductions in pension benefits - at least in hard times such as these."

Courts across Pennsylvania have consistently ruled that government pensions must be honored.

Government employees, like me, have foregone opportunities for profit sharing, higher wages and year-end bonuses that occur in the private sector, in exchange for a secure pension.

I would like to remind you these are also hard times for the antique print media in this country, due to the rise of the Internet.

Perhaps an immediate 50 percent reduction in pay for all newspaper employees would prevent our local papers from going under, eliminating unnecessary increases in publicly funded unemployment payouts.
