Joseph Lee Halbrook
Joseph Lee Halbrook (SUBMITTED)
Found to be a sexually violent predator, a former Newberry Township man was sentenced to 30 to 60 years in state prison Wednesday.

Joseph L. Halbrook was convicted in August 2011 of two counts each of rape by forcible compulsion, rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, aggravated indecent assault on a child, indecent assault on a child under age 13, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child under 16, and aggravated indecent assault of child under 16.

Allegations against him surfaced when his home on Sugar Maple Drive was burglarized in March 2009 by two teens who later told police he hosted parties for teen girls and provided them with alcohol and marijuana. That information led to the discovery of the sex crimes against two other girls.

At Halbrook's sentencing Wednesday in York County court, those two girls told him that his crimes had claimed their innocence and changed their lives.

One victim said she could forgive Halbrook but could never forget what he did to her.

After his conviction, Halbrook had skipped out on his $100,000 bail. He was picked up on a bench warrant in February. He remained in county prison without bail pending his sentencing.
