WHITE ROSES: To alumni of Spring Grove High School for holding a last waltz at the school, scheduled to close this year with a new one opening in the fall. Former students recently held a special prom to relive memories at the school.

ROSES: Posthumously, to the firefighters who died over the last year who were honored at a ceremony in York last week.

ROSES: To everyone who is helping to make York's newest recreation facility, Renaissance Park, a reality. The Olde Towne East park is to open in July.

THORNS: To the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for losing some voter registrations filled out by people when they apply for licenses. Officials say some are lost every year and can't entirely explain why. The result was that some people showed up at the polls recently expecting to vote but were turned away.

THORNS: To the vandals who spray painted several cars in York recently.

ROSES: To Family First Health for offering medical services at Hannah Penn Middle School. The clinic served more than 4,000 community members last year.

ROSES: To the Codorus Creek Improvement Project for marking storm drains in the city with plaques informing people that the drains lead, untreated, to the Codorus and then to the Susquehanna and the Chesapeake. The idea is to dissuade people from dumping pollutants down the storm drains.

THORNS: To people who dump chemicals, oil and other gunk down storm drains. They're

slowly poisoning our waterways.

ROSES: To the York Revolution on their home opener victory. Roses also to stadium goers for being good neighbors. Nearby residents said in a story last week that it has been a pleasure -- not a pain -- living next to the stadium.

THORNS: To the unnamed guard that Exelon Nuclear Security said was found "inattentive" (with his eyes closed) on duty at Three Mile Island. Roses to Exelon for publicly reporting the infraction.

ROSES: To the Jewish Community Center for showing the powerful documentary "The Devil Came on Horseback" about the genocide in Darfur, Sudan.
