The project monitors winter bird species across North America. Data collected locally by volunteers who watch Nixon Park's bird feeders is sent to Cornell and evaluated by scientists for trends in bird populations, diseases, rare sightings and the like.
Time slots are available between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays now through April. Volunteers need no previous birding experience.

Steel Time, a remarkable display of nearly 200 gunmetal watches, is at the National Watch and Clock Museum now through Dec. 11.
Made of burnished steel between 1850 and 1910, each watch in this exhibit is unique, with variations in movement complications, case ornamentation and brilliantly original dials.
The museum is at 514 Poplar St., Columbia, Lancaster County, just a short trip across the Susquehanna River.

Kudos to the New Freedom Lioness Club for once again reaching its goal of raising $10,000. As a result, the club was recognized with the top award in its district for hearing research donations.

The 34th annual Delta Christmas Fair involves dozens of businesses, churches, nonprofit organizations and residents from the borough and surrounding Peach Bottom Township as well as Cardiff and Whiteford, Md.
Festivities open at 7 p.m. Friday with caroling by Girl Scout Troops and a live Nativity at the Delta Baptist Church. These are followed by the arrival of Santa, performances by Kennard-Dale High School's musical groups and the lighting of the town Christmas tree.
On Saturday, the Delta-Peach Bottom Community Senior Center will serve breakfast and lunch and host a craft fair, Mason-Dixon Community Services will hold an open house and the Delta-Cardiff Volunteer Fire Company will host Christmas at the Firehouse, a vendor, craft and flea market.
