A Susquehannock High School stu dent design team placed among the top three finalists in the Synergis Design Challenge. Senior Alexandra Weaver and junior Katie Steines, submitted a design for a Buck’s County children’s art museum and were judged by a panel of industry professionals.

The winners were then chosen through a Facebook vote.

Alexandra and Katie spent most of the school year on the project which involved turning two existing attached apartment buildings into a children’s art museum, while maintaining the build ing’s historical integrity without chan ging the appearance of the front of the building or any load bearing walls.

Their goal was to make the museum fun and interactive for children, with each aspect designed so that children have hands-on opportunities to experi ence art and also to include information about building codes, its operatng sys tems, handicap accessibility, and addi tional entrances for parking.

As one of the top three teams, Alex andra and Katie presented their design at Synergis University in June as part of an annual technology event of regional engineering professionals.
