The York Revolution's road woes continued Thursday night as the Somerset Patriots defeated York, 2-1, at Commerce Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, N.J.
The Revs remain winless on the road this season, losing their first seven games away from Sovereign Bank Stadium.
And York's overall losing streak -- now at four games -- has turned particularly difficult in the last two days.
The Revs blew a one-run lead in the eighth on Wednesday night, and 24 hours later the Patriots pushed across the go-ahead run when No. 9 hitter Sean Smith hit a two-out RBI single to left in the seventh.
The win allowed first-place Somerset (7-7) to move 11/2 games ahead of York (5-8) in the Atlantic League Freedom Division.
York continued to struggle offensively. The worst-hitting team in the league managed six hits. And the Nos. 4 through 6 hitters combined to go 0-for-10.
Matt Padgett led off the ninth with a single, bringing the go-ahead run to the plate. But Matt Esquivel grounded into a double play and Tyler Von Schell struck out to end the game.
York starter David Gassner (0-1) held Somerset to one hit through five innings. But making only his second start for the Revs, he showed signs of tiring in the sixth inning when he allowed the tying run on four hits.
Left fielder Jason Aspito limited the damage by throwing out David Housel at the plate -- marking his third assist this week.
Gassner remained in the game, however, because York had little wiggle
Somerset had no bullpen concerns. After Scott Wiggins limited York to four hits through six frames, the Patriots turned to right-hander Jason Richardson (1-0). He struck out four in two innings of work, and former Diamondback Bret Prinz pitched a scoreless ninth for his sixth save.
York's lone run came in the top of the third when catcher Sandy Aracena doubled, and Padgett singled to center to drive him home.
Travis Ezi returned to the lineup after missing four games with a pulled groin.
Bears 9, Barnstormers 5: In Newark, N.J., the Bears scored four times in the sixth and seventh innings to send Lancaster (4-9) to its second consecutive loss.
Keith Reed clubbed an opposite-field three-run homer for Newark (6-7).
