PHILADELPHIA—Gov. Ed Rendell says buses, subways and trolleys in Philadelphia may be rolling again soon.
Rendell said late Friday night that negotiators for the city's largest transit union and the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority have tentatively agreed on a proposed contract.
The governor said if both sides sign off on the proposal, the strike could be over by Saturday evening.
Transport Workers Union Local 234 has been on strike for four days.
Rendell said the big break in talks came when both sides came to a compromise on pension benefits under the new contract. That has been the key sticking point.
