CHARLESTON, W.Va.—A search committee has selected three finalists for chancellor of West Virginia's higher education system.

The candidates announced Wednesday include Paul Hill, who has served as interim chancellor since January.

The other finalists are John C. Hayek, senior vice president for budget, policy and planning at the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education; and James D. Moore III, interim president of Edinboro University in Pennsylvania.

The West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission says 15 people applied for the chancellor's position.

Former Chancellor Brian Noland left in January to become president of East Tennessee University.
